Who's On First...Harris or Meyers?!?
I didn't have anything to do this weekend so I - - - - scratch that...I'm totally lying...I had tons of things to do but got caught in a trap and couldn't complete anything. The trap 'sucked' me into its spell and pulled my heart out bit by bit and before I knew what was happening I was hooked...on 'v' juice.
I had never seen an episode of True Blood, before yesterday morning, and after the first one I watched them back to back, one after the other, hours after hours after delicious hours. I watched twelve episodes yesterday (they run 55 minutes long) and watched the eight episodes of the 2nd season today...which catches me up on Sookie's life. The only repercussions are that I cannot see (I watched them all on line...on my 10" computer screen), and that Don is seriously contemplating two things; having me commited or leaving my ass. I don't really care what he chooses as long as I can watch the new episode tonight at 9!
Here is my dilemma...I read Stephenie Meyers' Twilight series books first, and of course saw the Twilight movie (cannot wait until New Moon comes out on November 30th!); I haven't read Charlaine Harris' books yet, but did watch 20 episodes of her show, so... which one of them started these luscious books first? And, why are there so many similarities?
I know, I know, there are hundreds of blogs dis--claiming the fact that they are so similar...(I read about 15 of them this evening) but they do have serious similarities!
1. Edward is the mindreader who can read everyone's thoughts except for Bella's - Sookie is the mindreader who can read everyone's thoughts except for Bill's. (The names Bill and Bella are smililar, too).
2. Jacob = Sam - they're both "transformants or shape-shifters" depending on which book you read (they both turn into animals), and they both love the heroine, Bella or Sookie - again depending on which book you read.
3. Edward and Bill are both the quite, reserved, peace keeping two of the group...neither want to kill or hunt or hurt anyone, relying on food from animals or True Blood for nutrition.
4. In both series the vampire cannot kill anyone with one bite...unless they really want to...and all it takes is one drink of a vampire's blood to heal any wounds...no matter how ghastly. One sip (or suckle) and the wounded are healed.
5. Edward has Dr. Cullen and Esme and his family...and Bill has Eric and the seniors and his family.
6. Bella drives a beat up pickup truck - Sookie drives a beat up...I'm not even sure what she drives but it's an old car.
7. Bella can just "think" of Edward and he appears....Sookie can just "think" of Bill and he appears.
8. Personal friends are strangely mutilated, in both books, which no one can explain.
9. Both sets of "v's" live in small remote areas; Forks, Washington and Bon Temp, Louisiana
10. Both sets of "v's" have family vampires who want to harm the heroine.
There are a lot of similarities and yes, Ms. Harris wrote and published her books before Ms. Myers did...but I have to say...I love them both!!! Without them I wouldn't have known Bella and Edward or Sookie and Bill...and now I do. Plus, I love 'Bella's song' just about as much as, I love 'Bad Things.' I will talk about all of this when my husband has me committed. I just pray that there's someone in my ward who has read these books...and has also watched the shows.....................
