To insure or not to insure...that is the question...
This topic will not segment my family, I'm sure, (or at least I hope that's true). Don, Kyle, and Darrell...oppose the new national insurance reform vigorously. Jason and I are proud advocates for this bill...and will vote to help it pass.
For those of you who live in 'zebra land' everything isn't as it seems. Based on the current records, and said records leave many millions of people unaccounted for, there are over 40 million people who do not have any type of insurance. Those people do not go to the doctor when they are ill...they have no preventative medicine...and they will simply die or end up in the emergency room when their health is so poor that the hospital will finally admit them. The costs they incur will be trickled down to us...those with health coverage...health coverage that increases annually. That's why an aspirin costs $48 in the hospital...and a plastic cup costs $24. You don't see that cost...but your insurance company does.
When 40+ million people are suddenly given medical coverage...NO...YOUR healthcare will NOT be the same as it once was. Your doctor's office will suddenly see an influx of patients and you might have to wait a month...or two as the doctor's try to determine if treating cancer for a homeless person, who suddently has the money to see a doctor, is more important than treating your sore ankle.
It's going to sting and hurt and it's going to make you wait a few weeks to get your allergy tests or to have that mole removed. But all of you so called christians out there...if you really care about mankind and your brothers...don't step over them. Wait a few months until everything works out. Take a 2% hit on your taxes (my GOD they tax more than that to pave your streets when needed) and just let people live. Give them the opportunity TO live. Where's your compassion? Not all of the people in need are drunks in shelters. Some of these people are mother's with children working two jobs...or elderly people who can't afford the $600 a month insurance rates while only earning $400 on their social security plan, some of these people are sitting across from you...and you...in 'zebra land' don't even know it!
