Mr. Big Update
Big had his first visit with the vet this morning to get his shots and had a great check up. He weighs 2 lbs. 6 oz. He did not, however, enjoy riding in the car; he shook in my lap all the way there. Fortunately the vet's office is about 5 minutes from the house!
I must say I don't think I've ever been around an animal quite like him. He's paper trained... we've only had one accident and it was my fault. The first night we got him he awakened from a nap on the sofa and started crying to get down. I wanted to play with him and didn't realize that puppies need to go potty the MINUTE they wake up. He goes to sleep around 9 p.m. and doesn't wake up until the alarm goes off...this morning he slept through the alarm and I had to wake him to get ready for the vet!
He's eating well and the only time he barks is when he doesn't get all the attention.... He runs up and down the stairs (amazing for his size) and climbs up and down the doggie stairs to get on and off the bed and the couches by himself. Here's the shocker...we have a 11" hearth on our fire place. Yesterday I looked around and didn't see him on the sofa, I looked over and saw him walking back and forth across the hearth. How he got up there I do not know unless he "climbed" the bricks!
He loves to chew as he's cutting new teeth. I have bought every kind of chew toy (soft/hard/flavored/large/small...there are toys all over the house) but my hands and toes are what he preferred most. I tried to teach him the "no bite" command but he was so cute I just let him chew on my fingers. I wised up and bought him baby pacifiers and a baby doll. The pacifiers are perfect and he loves them...and the baby doll has soft hands and feet so voila!
Sam is taking a little more time than I had anticipated geting used to the baby. The collar Sam has to wear due to his surgery limits his vision...he'll be lying down trying to nap and then all of a sudden POP there's Big in his face. Sam's been spending a lot of time on the top back of the sofa or upstairs in the living room hiding from Big. I think when the collar comes off they'll be best friends. Sam has already moved over and is sleeping next to me on the night stand...he's letting Big have the entire bed.
Anyway, he's a joy to have around and within 5 short days has endeared himself to both Don and me so much so it's unbelievable. Don left for a golf outing in South Carolina. He called last night. First words out of his mouth after I answered, "hello," were...."well how's Mr. Big and what did he do today?" Uh...yeah..."I'm fine honey...don't worry about me".....this dog owns us!
Here are some videos of the little one. The first is Big barking because I was playing with Sam. The second is Big...just being cute! The third is me trying to teach him "no bite" until I gave up. (No hitting...I don't hit dogs...just pointing). With that face...wouldn't you let him chew your hands until they bled???
