A Typical Weekend

Our house is over 30 years old.....it was, however, probably regal in the 70's with all of the "gold" appliances and "wood" paneling. I can close my eyes and just see the potential buyers heart's swelling up at the hope of purchasing such a FINE home in 1975!

Since we've owned this home (can you actually call it owning...if you still owe $50,000 on a mortage) we have replaced most of the "goldenrod" appliances, updated the paneling, and we've pretty much upgraded the house to a respectable 1990's home. It took a lot of work (mine) and a lot of money (Don's).

If you're not familiar with a home from the 70's let me fill you in....someone, somewhere, thought installing entire fiberglass bathtub/shower units would become the trend of the century. It failed miserably, however.........that's what we have in this house. Sooooooooooooooo when you have a leak in the shower that cannot be repaired with washers.....you have to cut out the drywall from the closet in order to reach the pipes. I'm telling you......I would love to spend 30 minutes with the idiot who created that design!

We've had a leak from the downstairs shower for over two months. First it was a slight drip...then it was a drip, drip, drip...then it was a slow ooze.......and I watched my waterbill rize from $7.00 a month to $17.00 a month. Not too bad...not bad enough for me to tackle the closet! This month...my water bill was $48.00 and that's enough money for me to do something about the leak!

I started cleaning out the closet and it took me two days. Ok, not that there was that much "stuff" in there...but because I had to stop and look and read everything I found! I found the wedding invitations (samples of course) that I bought for Kyle's wedding...before she was even engaged or dating anyone seriously. I found journals of mine that I had written in high school. Those took a few hours to read through. I found the package from Love's Funeral Home...the bag that held all of the cards, flower tags, and the book that people signed at my Father's funeral. I found the folder of cards and notes that my children had sent/given me through the years. I threw a few things away.........but I kept most of those things. I know...I need another closet.

Sooooooooooo sometime this week...someone will come to the house and rip out the wall to try and get the drip to stop. That's Don's plan............if it were left up to me.....I'd just turn the water off in the downstairs bathroom and live upstairs....someone's heart will swell up at the thought of buying this house.....someday.

That's so funny! Not the leak part. We had a leak and our house is only 3 years old. It was not good at all. We've also had some electrical oddities, too. I think condo living is way underrated!
